Bassett edge close game with FC Chippenham

Dry, bright and breezy sums up Ballards Ash on this Saturday morning where we meet FC Chippenham.

The home game before Christmas was very tense with a score of 1-0 with them scoring minutes before the final whistle. Today's game was not going to be any different. The girls knew what was up against them and today were an opportunity to level this score.

After a hectic start - end to end with continuous action - it was only time before one team was going to give way and with good play from Julia and Amy, they were able to possibly break for goal with Amy shooting just wide and missing the first opportunity. Giving a corner away to Chippenham soon after, and a goal mouth scramble later, Felicity dealt with the ball and cleared this to the midfield, Julia was able to take the ball back to the Chippenham half and another attempt of goal again was blocked by the Chippenham keeper.

Following another Chippenham corner, Felicity made her way up the pitch into Chippenham's half, good team play and a pass to striker Julia, she was able to shoot and tuck the ball in the right hand corner of the net. WBTFC finish the half strongly with three late corners and Rebecca coming on as sub at the end of this tense first half.

HALF TIME 1-0

Chippenham knew they had extra work to do and the girls had no doubt they would start the second half strong and with every intention of equalising. Good saves and communication from Ellie saved this from happening. Chippenham's pressure persisted with a goal mouth struggle in the 17th minute and an excellent volley in the 18th minute which went just past the post.

Today's game proved the girls and league that through fighting, keeping focus and good team work we can hold on to pressure and walk away with wins and not draws, and coming away from Ballards Ash today after a well fought match, the girls did them self proud winning 1-0.

Joint Players of the Match (nominated by a parent) was awarded to Felicity and Molly.
