Bassett complete double over Trowbridge Wanderers

On a very poor pitch and in bitter weather conditions, the home side kicked off and attacked with strength to create many early chances, but none produced any goals. The best shooting chance came from Julia, who had an excellent long range shot which turned round the post by the Wanderers keeper for one of the 4 corners that WBTFC got in the first half. By half time the score was still 0-0 but the team certainly had the better advantage within the first half.

Early in the 2nd half Julia put the team ahead with a short range shot. Trowbridge came back strongly and after a goal mouth scramble Ellie was able to make a good save from short range. Trowbridge pushed forward again, Bassett were unable to clear the ball and this time Trowbridge's pressure paid dividends making the score even. Shortly after the restart Julia broke from the halfway line to put the squad back in the lead. Trowbridge again came back strongly. Felicity made an excellent tackle which relieved the pressure for a while, but Trowbridge had 3 corners in short succession. Trowbridge were not able to take advantage of their possession at the end of the 2nd half and WBTFC came out on top winning a well-deserved 2-1 home win placing us in the next round of the cup.

Player of the Match was awarded to Gabby from assistant Gemma French
