Another close encounter that sees Bassett come out on top

With a full squad this morning and with a previous good run of winning, I needed the girls to understand that a win today would at long last move us up 1 space up the league table (if not 2 – depending on the final score on Swindon Town v Swindon Spitfires).

We start the game strong forcing two early corners which are defended well by Chippenham. With tight points within the league, Chippenham Town also aware that a win by them was crucial to keep them in mid table, they soon realise that both defenders (Felicity and Gabby) are a tough duo to get pass, they both make good tackles to break-up any attacks that come their way.

They add pressure to the midfield area which moves me to replace current players Rebecca and Aimee Menzies with Evie & Amy Mathews. Felicity then breaks strongly from defence to find Evie who passes to Julia who shoots quickly and with force from just outside the area to score our 1st goal of the morning.

Chippenham come back strongly and forces Ellie to make some good saves and ensures she maintains this 1-0 score leading up to the half time whistle. Wootton Bassett lose Millie after a bad knock on her foot, and is replaced with Rebecca.

The game continues to be end to end with WBTFC having a couple of attempted shots from Julia. Chippenham continue to attack stronger as they get a hold on midfield, but with the WBTFC defenders exceeding themselves well and with Ellie making some good saves, one recovery from Felicity was outstanding which rewards her with Man of the Match today (which was nominated by the Manager of Chippenham Town).

The last 10 minutes of the game finish with high energy levels from both teams, Chippenham keeping Ellie busy in goal with any last minute attempt to draw, but WBTFC counter attack well with Evie making some strong runs from midfield to clear any danger from their striker coming up against Ellie.

Winning today moved us from 6th position to 4th with 12 points!
