Narrow win over Swindon Town Reds

Today we visited Colebrook School in Swindon with much the same weather and pitch conditions as Trowbridge a couple of weeks ago. The girls knew they had a hard task on their hands today, last season we came away with a 1-1 at the same venue, so today's match was going to test WBTFC to the limits!

With a capable squad and 2 subs, we start the game off strong. Ellie as goalkeeper was going to have her work cut out and didn't let me down in the slightest, she kept strong at all times and made some superb saves and very much improving as our new goalkeeper in every game she plays. The solid lines of defence were as usual there with Felicity and Gabby dealing with any oncoming attacks. Mollie, Evie and Aimee Menzies kept the midfield flowing. The team played with ease today which was worrying, we needed to come away with at worst a draw today to keep us in line with the middle of the teams in the table. Mollie our newest player read the game very well and at times made some good solid runs and for her work still remains to score her first goal, which she is very capable of doing.

With good play from the girls, the defence in their glory, Julia ready to make her mark, it was only time that the team were ready and waiting to score the 1st goal, this in turn lifted the spirit of the team and continue we did to keep the score line at 1-0 up to half time. Several changes we made to the squad before the half time whistle was blown, Millie and Rebecca both came on into midfield positions replacing Evie and Aimee Menzies.

The half time team talk was discussed, areas that we could/should improve on, tactics on how the opposition played and how this could benefit us in the 2nd half.

The same team ventured out with Millie moving into defence and Gabby now in midfield, the 2nd half progressed at much the same speed as the 1st half, with plenty of movement and passes. Gabby was there to help Millie at the back when required, but still there to fight in the midfield which she does so naturally.

Plenty of attempts were made by Swindon and they did their best to try and come away with at least a draw, but with the commitment of all the girls at WBTFC and the persistent good play and never once looking complacent during the 2nd half, we came away today with an excellent win.

No Man of the Match given today.
