Finishes all square with Melksham Town

A good effort was made by all the girls were played in today's game. We didn't have our usual strong squad out today, we were without a number of strong players including Ellie our goalkeeper, added to that we ventured out to Melksham with only the 1 sub.

The goalkeeper's gloves were handed to Gabby for the duration of the game which left the team without a solid midfield/defence player. Gabby fought bravely through the game with helpful advice from one of the fathers who kindly guided her through her moves, she was a credit to me and to the team who stepped in at the last minute to play a position which she has never played in before.

Felicity had an excellent game in defence providing some good solid blocking moves with Millie's support when we became under attack from the opposition. Melksham scored their first goal within 10 minutes of the first half and held this advantage through to half time. In the later stages of the first half we had a couple of corner opportunities, but were not able to convert them. Rebecca came on mid way into the first half for Aimee Menzies who then returned at half time in place of Sophie. Our midfield worked very hard throughout the whole match with Amy, Rebecca and Sophie running the length of the pitch, fighting through the tackles and making opportunities for the team to score, but their hard work continuously ran out of pace before we could attempt to add to the scorecard, their defence were ready for us at each and every attempt.

Our first goal came 10 minutes into the second half with a usual on target goal from Julia. Following this we had a couple of further shots by both Julia and Rebecca. Our second goal, again from Julia, came mid way in the second half. Unfortunately, straight after our second goal we were caught short and unfortunately left the back wide open for them to equalise.

All the girls played well and the result was a fair reflection of both teams on the day.

Man of the Match x 2 today – Felicity and Julia.
