Narrow win in final league game of the season

This was Bassett's last league game of the season which ended on a high. It could have easily been so different. First half Bassett was playing against the wind which was practically a gale. Play was not going well. Bassett conceding an early penalty, but thanks to Joe Paish who stayed upright and strong managed to save it going in. Credit to the boys, they dug in deep and kept going. Shaw scored their first goal with our defenders not clearing the ball in time. Then Shaw had the wind to thank for their second goal as a throw in curled around and headed straight for the goal as Bassett tried to stop it they touched the ball making the goal count. Midfielders Ben Mattick Jake Matthews and Tyler Amos worked hard and passed well but their strongest competitor for them was the howling gale. Bassett were becoming despondent when the half time whistle blew. Second half and a few changes were made. We had the wind behind us so all the good passing they were achieving in the first half was actually working for them now. Sam Lowkis (1) scored the crucial first goal which gave Bassett belief in themselves. Play became stronger and Shaw realised how hard it was against the wind. Jake Matthews (1) scored the equaliser pouncing on a Shaw goal kick, making it 2-2. Bassett were back on form. The defenders, Scott Walduck and Oliver Rigby were strong and committed in their tackling. With good build-up from the back to midfield Tyler Amos (1) scored the third and final goal giving Bassett a 3 - 2 win. Well Done lads!!
