Town made to work hard for win on heavy pitch

The Town ground was in bad condition on Saturday when Chippenham Congregationalists were visitors in a Calne and District League match. The Town, adapting themselves to the bad state of the pitch, were a little the better team, and at the interval led by 2 goals (Scored by A. Embling and F.F. Perry) to nil.

During the second half the Congregationalists were seen to better advantage, and after a severe struggle Stinchcombe reduced the arrears. Just before the end H. Bartlett put the Town further ahead. L. Hunt, the home goalkeeper made some good saves. Final score – Wootton Bassett Town 3 Chippenham Congs 1.

The Town will visit Cricklade in the postponed first-round tie of the Vale of White Horse Cup Competition tomorrow and the team will be: L.Hunt; F.C.W. Drury and R. Beazley; A. Compton, H. Clark and J. G. Fry.; E.B. Bull, F.F. Perry, A. Embling, C.R. Waite and H. Bartlett.
