Good start to the season for Bassett

Wootton Bassett Town have made a remarkably good start in the Calne & District League by winning their first two matches. Their opponents were Lyneham away last Saturday and at home on Tuesday evening. In the away game the Town won by the odd goal in five the scorers being A. Embling (2) and F.F. Perry, Matthews scoring twice for Lyneham. Fred Perry is a new inside-right the Town have signed this season and in the two games he had six goals to his credit, while Arthur Embling had three. Both these lads are excellent shots. Last season, Perry who is still in his teens, played for Purton in Wiltshire League football. Most of the Wootton Bassett players are under 21 and so they are also competing in the Swindon Borough League this season. Amongst last seasons players who have so far donned the green jerseys are L. Hunt, F.C.W. Drury, R. Beazley, J.G. Fry, D. Bull, J. Leighfield, A. Embling, H. Bartlett and A. Compton, the new members being F.F. Perry, A.B. Bull, S. Gleed and D. Whitaker. Mr Percy Stone is the Club's new hon. secretary and he is working hard for success despite the fact that, owing to a dearth of senior players, the Town had to withdraw from the Swindon & District League.
