Town lose in County Cup game against Sherston

After receiving byes in the first and second round of the Wilts Junior Cup Competition, Wootton Bassett Town were defeated on Saturday by Sherston by the odd goal in five. The Town opened the scoring at the end of Seven minutes through S. Gleed, but Sherston equalised when H. Neal raced through to score after side-stepping Waite, who had come out of goal. C. P. Bishop gave the visitors the lead, but before the interval S. Gleed again scored for the Town.

In the second half F.F. Perry failed to convert a penalty and in the closing stages Sherston were slightly the better team, H. Neal scoring the winning goal. T. Thompson, the visitors centre-half, was easily the best player on the field.

The Town visit Chippenham Congregationals in a Calne and District Cup-tie tomorrow and their team will be: C.R. Waite; F.C.W. Drury and H. Clarke; A. Compton, R. Beazley and J.G. Fry; E.B. Bull, F.F. Perry, A. Embling, S. Gleed and H. Bartlett.

(In the end the game was postponed for a week with the Town squad the same).
