Bassett lift the Calne and District League Cup

Wootton Bassett playing in the Calne & District League and the Calne & District Cup competition have taken both trophies out of Calne. On Saturday evening they played Lyneham in the cup final at Calne and won by three goals to nil. The game was evenly contested in the first half but after the change-over Lyneham "faded out". The standard of football was poor, and the winners did not play like league champions, kick and rush was the method adopted by both sides. The game was 30 minutes old when Embling scored for Wootton Bassett with a solo effort. Just before half time the same team were awarded a penalty and Waite came out of goal to take the kick and score easily. Beazley ran through for Wootton Bassett's third. Lord Walter Harvey (President of the League) presented the cups to Waite (the Wootton Bassett captain) and the runners-up and replicas were also handed to each player. Lord Walter Harvey congratulated the winners on their achievement and also the teams on their sporting play. Waite congratulated Lyneham. Mr P. Seymour (Calne) the referee was also presented with a cup.
