Benefit match for broken leg victim

On Tuesday a benefit match was played on the Sports Ground between the Town's first eleven and Ferndale Athletic (Swindon) and the entire proceeds were for J. Thorne, of the G.W.R. Running Shed F.C. who sustained a. broken leg during a match last season between his club and Wootton Bassett Reserves. Many tickets had been sold previous to the match and there were about 200 present. The visitors right from the start were the better team and at the interval led by 3 goals scored by A. Payne. J. Newman and W. Ogbourne. During the second half the town had more of the game and just before the end a goal came to them after a scrimmage in the goal mouth. The referee was Mr. S. Honey.
