Bassett fall to first competitive defeat of the season

Wootton Bassett Town suffered their first defeat of the season in competitive football on Saturday, when Clyffe Pypard were the visitors the third round of the Wilts Junior Cup Competition. Within five minutes Roles raced through to give the Town the lead, and when Saunders was fouled in the penalty area the advantage was increased by Charles. The visitors were not discouraged, and just before half-time, Gray reduced the arrears.

During the first twenty minutes of the second half a ding-dong struggle was witnessed before the visitors equalised through Haines, but the Town immediately regained the lead, Charles scoring again. The game continued at a great pace and Haines for the second time brought the scores level for the visitors. Walters scored the winning goal from a penalty. In the closing stages it was claimed the Clyffe goalkeeper carried the ball over the line but the referee ruled otherwise and the final score was Clyffe Pypard 4 Wootton Bassett 3.
