Result does not reflect Bassett's performance

In football the result does not always reflect the game and so it proved in this match against Barbury. As in the past few matches Bassett started very brightly and soon started playing some very attractive football, but against the run of play Barbury scored on a good counter attack Bassett rallied and continued to play their passing football but despite producing some good openings failed to score, Barbury, however, had no such problems and in a passage of play that no-one can explain or believe scored three more before half time. The half finished with a shell shocked Bassett four down.

Bassett continued to press in the second half and were rewarded with a deserved goal when Ryan Campbell worked an opening and found the top corner. It was the spark Bassett needed and with Mitch Amos pulling the strings in midfield, Brad Bancroft gambled on a long ball and scored into an open net. Bassett went on all out attack but were caught out by a good piece of counter attacking by Barbury resulting in a well taken goal. Constant pressure on the Barbury goal allowed Brad to score his second but time was against Bassett and the game ended in defeat. This game was the most entertaining of the season and everyone, including the opposition, felt Bassett deserved more.
