Bassett fall to 8th straight defeat

As in the fixture earlier this season, this match proved to be a hard fought contest highlighting all the good things about football. Bassett started very brightly and quickly settled into some good attacking football. Some pleasing passing football created some clear chances for Bassett but Lydiard always looked dangerous and seized on some hesitant defending to open the scoring. Jack Deane was injured making a last ditch attempt to stop the shot and had to be replaced by Toby Edgington. Bassett quickly returned to their passing football and Aiden Cressey levelled the score after latching on to a Karl Roberts pass. Bassett were looking to half time when Lydiard struck again with a well taken goal.

Bassett started the second half as they had started the first and the match soon became end to end with both teams playing some superb football. The pace never dropped as Bassett continued to push for the equaliser. With every player giving his all, Lydiard found themselves in space on the 18 yard box and converted with a neat lob. For the last 5 minutes Bassett threw everything at the opposition but although close on a couple of occasions, failed to find the net. Every player can be proud of their performance in this hugely enjoyable match.
