Bassett fail to take their chances and lose again

A match which, for the most part, was dominated by Bassett. Unfortunately, we have suffered another defeat.

The football we played in the first, in particular, was of the highest quality in most areas of the field. The mid field dominated the central areas and played some great interchanging passes. The defence also had numerous occasions when they played the ball out of defence under control rather just 'clearing the lines.'

Our failings however, were that in the wide areas, players failed to get the ball into the penalty area early enough, if at all, and that we tried to walk the ball into the net – rather taking a few more shots at goal. Too often we lost possession in forward areas as players tried to take on one player too many. A lesson to be learnt here.

Bassett took the lead through Aiden Cressey, who chipped the goalkeeper.

Although Bassett had the better of most of the second half, we could not get the second goal to kill off Uffington. Unfortunately, it was Uffington who scored next goal. They broke following a Bassett free kick when we had pushed players forward and scored. They then scored what turned out to the winning goal soon afterwards.

If this was a boxing match, the ref would have stopped fight such was Bassett's dominance. However, in football, you need to take your chances when you have them – and today Uffington did just that.
