Well earned victory

A solid performance by all the players who had to match a very good, strong AFC Barbury team. Although AFC Barbury had the better of the opening exchanges, it was Bassett who took the lead when Aiden Cressey scored from around the 6 yard box. The second goal will probably be the goal of the season – even though this was our first game. Ryan Campbell hit a first time volley from outside the penalty area which went in at the far post to give us a 2-0 lead.

However, AFC Barbury pulled a goal back within a few minutes of half time from a very dubious penalty decision. The two lead was restored when Karl Roberts scored a fine individual goal within a minute of the restart to make the score 3-1 to Bassett. Again AFC Barbury pulled a goal back to make the score 3-2 to Bassett but within a couple minutes another goal from Aiden Cressey gave a comfortable looking lead of 4-2.

Barbury never gave up scored to make the score 4-3 to Bassett with 5 minutes remaining. Bassett stayed really strong and held on to secure a well earned victory.
