A win at last

Weeks of disappointment and near misses were put behind them as Bassett recorded their first win of the season. With a belief not really seen before in previous matches Bassett started at a blistering pace carving out chances but failing to take them, leading parents (and managers) to wonder if it was going to be 'one of those days'. The deadlock was finally broken when Karl latched on to a superb ball from midfield to score what was to be the decisive goal. The pace of the first half never dropped with Uffington making some strong runs, the defence were well organised and coped well with the pressure.

At half time the home team were asked to keep the intensity at the same level and they duly responded. Tireless running from a 3 man midfield caused gaps to appear in the Uffington defence and more chances were created for a front line that never stopped running all game. After 70 minutes of incredible work rate Bassett emerged victorious, ruing missed chance that would have closed the game out earlier, but elated and eager to take their new found confidence into the rest of the season. Man of the match could have gone to any one of the 11 players but for a true captain's performance it was awarded to Gavin Brown.
