Bassett lose in cup rollercoaster

A rollercoaster of a match found Bassett pitted against their perennial 'bogey team' of Stratton Youth. Basset started extremely slowly and soon found themselves a goal down. This was soon compounded as Bassett failed to settle and Stratton took full advantage by scoring two more. This seemed to be the shock the players needed and began to produce some good openings, only to be denied by some truly outstanding saves from the Stratton keeper. Their efforts were rewarded with a great goal from Ryan Campbell showing outstanding technical skill.

Some harsh words at half time resulted in Bassett taking control of the second half and showing some good attacking football. Ryan Dowse working tirelessly in a new position upfront latched on to a squared ball to score Bassett's second. A well deserved third was scored by Aiden Cressey with a trade mark cool finish. Bassett then threw everything forward in an effort to close the game before extra time. This left them exposed at the back and with less than a minute to go Stratton broke free and scored the killer goal. Bassett were inconsolable but can take great pride in the way they turned round a three goal deficit.
