The score line does not do justice

The score line does not do justice to how close this match was. Taking nothing away from a very impressive Highworth team who are justifiably topping the table, Bassett more than matched their opposition for a significant amount of the game. Highworth started the game firing on all cylinders and soon showed Bassett what to expect for the whole game by making the most of their early chances and scoring three goals before Bassett knew what had hit them. Showing a character missing at the beginning of the season Bassett rallied and some neat passing football resulted in chances for the home team. One such move ended with Karl Roberts showing some neat individual skill to slot home Bassett's first goal. Looking ever confident on the ball Highworth scored two more before the break.

Rightly spurred on by the first half performance, Basset continued to play some flowing football creating some good openings. Highworth always looked menacing and despite some outstanding goalkeeping and some tenacious defending from both the back four and midfield Bassett conceded three more goals before Aiden Cressey coolly lobbed the keeper to score a well deserved second. Highworth were just too strong and powerful and finished the match decisively scoring three more before the end. Bassett can proud of a performance that drew impressed comments from both opposition manager and supporters. Man of the match was given to Gavin Brown for tireless performance on the left side of midfield.
