Bassett find form which forces the draw

Bassett Find form which forces the draw

After last week performance Bassett could only get better, couldn′t they? We knew that this match against Greenmeadow would be tough and tough it was, with both sides working hard for the ball for the first 5 minutes which was even until! Greenmeadow had a break down their left cracking open Bassett′s defence, then the shot which hit the back of Joe′s net. Bassett had only played 7 minutes or so and we are now one down already. What a shocker…..Bassett came back at Greenmeadow forcing a free kick which was taken by Tyler, the ball was struck well but was cleared away from Greenmeadow′s danger area. Bassett were now placing some pressure on Greenmeadow with help from Sam and Ben who were linking well down the right. A second break down our right hand side which lead to a corner. The corner was taken well and converted into a goal. It must be said against the run of play, Bassett were stunned to be two down.

Bassett now came back at Greenmeadow with some esculent passing from Scott who released Callum down the left. Bassett were now taking the game to Greenmeadow with some good one two′s between Sam, Tyler and Scott. Then again a break from Greenmeadow which was dealt with by Oliver as he sweeps across the back of our defence. Bassett won a free kick which looked perfect for Tyler to bend one over the top of the wall of players. The wall played its part well, as it blocked the shot which was on line for a goal. Bassett were now passing the ball around well a good ball from Jack found Ben who laid it off to Sam who struck the ball well at goal, but Greenmeadow headed it away. Bassett were now on top taking the game well and truly to Greenmeadow but just could not find the back of their oppositions net. Half time 0-2 to Greenmeadow.

The second half started well for Bassett, I′m not sure what our manager said at half time but it worked, Bassett came out wanting to win! With some stunning passing from Callum, Tyler and Ben opened up a goal opportunity for Callum which he took, Bassett had pulled one back and were on top again. Then Greenmeadow broke down their right leaving one on one with Scott, their forward got past Scott who then made a hard challenge in Bassett goal area, their player went to ground, winning a penalty. Not that I′m biased you understand but I think the referee should have paid a visit to Specsavers! Only joking Matt. The penalty was taken well, down to Joe′s right hand side, Joe just managed to get his fingertips to the ball but not enough to stop it hitting the back of Bassett′s net. Greenmeadow are now 3-1 up, if there was going to be a fight back then it needed to start now!

This was the strongest period for Bassett with some good battling from all our players who were up for the challenge. Ben was working the right hand side well making some space on two occasions in quick secession but Bassett could not convert the crosses into a goal. Most of the action was now in the Greenmeadow half and Bassett working the ball well, a clearance fell to Scott who gave the ball an almighty thump towards goal, the ball was travelling fast straight at Tyler, Tyler could not get anything on the ball to push it towards goal. Then the break through Bassett needed, a good pass from Josh found Ben on the right, a good well placed cross, found Callum who struck the ball well, right into the back of the Greenmeadow′s net. Bassett were on there way back 2-3 with ten minutes remaining.

Well what a ten minutes! Bassett again on the attack forcing Greenmeadow back, but Greenmeadow are strong in the counter attack. Bassett changed formation and were now playing two at the back throwing everyone up front. Then the equaliser, again coming from the right, a cross found Sam who laid it off to Callum who hit the back of the Greenmeadow′s net for his hat-trick, now its all square. Sam found some space down the middle allowing for the shot, just wide…. Greenmeadow then broke through our defence; Jack made a goal saving tackle clearing the ball out for a throw. The throw was taken quickly giving Greenmeadow space for the shot, Joe saves but gives the corner to Greenmeadow. The corner was taken well with swing, Joe again pulls off a great save by punching the ball away. Bassett cleared the ball, pushing towards the Greenmeadow′s goal, Tyler shoots, saved by their goal keeper. Greenmeadow break again with numbers, missing what should have been a game winning opportunity, the shot was missed kicked to the left of Bassett′s goal. I can′t take any more, come on ref blow your whistle! The game ended a three all draw.

This game was end to end with some very good football played by both teams and I would say that a draw reflects the effort and skill played by both teams. A much improved performance well done lads.
