A flattering score line gives Bassett the edge.

Bassett started very well placing Purton under pressure from the off, then Purton came back with some good passing which Bassett struggled to deal with. A good solid strike from Purton which rebounded off Bassets left upright in to the arms of our substitute goal keeper, a near miss. Almost immediately the front three of Tyler, Sam and Callum responded with some good passing, only to have the ball cleared by the Purton′s defence in to the path of Jack. Jack struck the ball hard forcing the goalie to push the ball onto the cross bar and out for a corner. Purton then attacked the goal from long range which just went wide. Oliver was very strong in defence supported by Jack and Scott. Bassett had the fire power upfront and looked like they could score but missed one or two opportunities. Half time 0-0.

The second half started with two changes Ban came on upfront and Josh was asked to protect our goal. Bassett again started well by placing lots of pressure on the Purton defence. Then against the run of play Purton tapped in a soft goal, Bassett now had some hard-work ahead to pull this one back. We needed a touch of magic now, and it came; Callum a darting run down the left wing driving for the line crossed the ball for Sam to convert, we were now level, and the fight back had started.

Purton came back with a shot which hit the side netting, and almost took the lead. Ben was working hard on the right wing communicating well with Sam and working the one two′s. Again Callum found some space and had a shot on goal; just left of the upright it was now all Bassett with Purton on the back foot. Sam broke through the left had side, then placed a cross just in front of the Purton′s goalie, which forced Purton′s goalie to make a brave save at the same time upending Ben who then fell on top of the goalie.

With only ten minutes remaining a draw looked like a good result. Then Sam broke down the right, drove in towards Purton′s goal, struck the ball low and hard and found the gap between the upright and the goal keeper. Bassett were now in the lead. The passing game that Bassett usually play was coming back which gave Sam a one on one with the goalie. Sam very skillfully took the ball around the keeper to tap in Bassett′s third which completed Sam′s hat-trick.

With out doubt Joe, Bassett′s usual goal keeper, was missed today but the team dug in deep to pull back from being one nil down to take their second win in the league. Final score 1-3.
