What a start

The first game of our new season, new kit, and new age group and what a start!

The day was a wet one with the drizzle descending, but this did not put off either side. It was very even for the first ten minutes with both sides finding their feet. Then Greenmeadow started to place some pressure on Wootton Bassett, a good strike at goal from Greenmeadow with Joe making a great catch. This was followed by additional pressure as Joe punched the next shot over his goal for a corner, at this point Greenmeadow was on top. Tyler then came to the rescue of Wootton Bassett by hitting a very sweet shot into the top corner from some distance, then after five minutes Tyler hit a similar shot which also beat the Greenmeadow keeper. The defence of Scott, Jack and Oliver was very strong with Oliver working very hard trying to free Sam or Ben down the wings. Half-time came with Bassett 2-0 up, but against the run of play.

The second half started with Greenmeadow placing extreme pressure on Bassett which ended up with a goal for Greenmeadow. Bassett then started to come back into the game with some good solid passing supported by the defence. Callum had two cracking shots on goal which just missed, this was followed by a free kick taken by Scott, a certain goal, and then headed clear by Greenmeadow. More pressure now from Greenmeadow which was followed by some good defending from Jack and then Josh. A free kick taken by Tyler was headed just over the bar, it was so close. Jack then struck, what I′m sure will be the goal of the season, a ball from the middle of his own half which bounced just in front of the Greenmeadow keeper then into the top of the goal, what a goal taking the pressure off Bassett. The final score 1-3 to Wootton Bassett a great start to the season, well done to the entire team.
