A game of two halfs and Joe Viveash saves the day

Bassett′s first home game and was to be our toughest test yet. Bassett started well placing pressure on the Robin′s from the off. The Robin′s tactic was to play the long ball over the top looking for their talented number 6. In the main Jack defended extremely well using his head on many occasions to clear the ball away from our goal. A good pass from Tyler found Ben down the right, Ben had a strike at goal, straight at the goal keeper′s hands. The Robins came back at Bassett with some good passing which beat our defence, a shot at goal just wide. Then a fantastic move down Bassett′s left, Scott picked out Tyler from some thirty yards. Tyler shoots and finds the top left of the goal. Bassett are now 1 up and looking good. Robin′s place pressure on our defence of Josh, Jack and Scott to find themselves with a one on one with Joe, Robins shoot to Joe′s left, Joe dives left pushing the ball around the post for the corner. What a fantastic save! Robins now have the momentum and start driving forward, Bassett on some occasions struggled to cope. Bassett then attacked down the right with Ben, who drives in the cross, which is missed by the Bassett forwards. Robin′s again sprint forward and force the corner. The corner is struck well forcing Joe to punch it away from his goal. Bassett make a substitute Ben is off and Callum is on. Callum makes a darting run down the left and picks out Tyler who shoots, just wide. Bassett′s second goal was very well worked, again from the back, Jack found Sam who picked out Tyler, Tyler shoots goal, Bassett are now two in front. Robins again fight back forcing the corner, the corner is taken, and finds the head of one of the Robins forwards, Joe saves. A special mention must go out to both Jack and Joe for some very good football in the first half. Bassett move into half time 2-0 up.

The second half started like the first with end to end football as both teams match each others moves. Sam finds some space and runs towards goal, a long range effort just goes wide. The Robin′s now start placing some pressure on Bassett with some good passing, you just had a feeling they would score and sure enough they did, a long shoot struck superbly found the top left corner of Bassett′s goal, its two one and the Robin′s are on top. Robins again shoot at gaol and Joe saves. Time and time again the Robin′s shoot at distance but Joe is up to the task and keeps the Robin′s at bay. Bassett run out on the counter attack, Callum runs down the left down to the goal line, a good cross tipped out by the Robin′s goalie then Sam taps in Bassett′s third goal its must be said against the run of play. Its three, one to Bassett. Bassett were now backing off and inviting the Robin′s forward, and they obliged with a well taken goal. Now it′s three two to Bassett and the Robin′s are well on top. More pressure from the Robin′s forces Joe to make some good saves, then the inevitable. The Robin′s level the score to three each, we are back to all square with only ten minutes remaining. The Robin′s again shoot at distance which passes through the defence straight through to Joe who makes a good save. The robins force a corner, which is struck extremely well, with bend, and finds the top right hand corner of Bassett′s goal. The Robin′s take the lead, its three four to the Robins and Bassett are facing their first league defeat. Then with only thirty seconds left on the clock, Callum makes a break down the left, a cracking cross finds Tyler who taps in the equaliser, what a game…..

Credit must go out to both teams who played some very good football which was supported fairly by both sets of parents.
