Cracking start to defence of knockout cup title

A cracking start in the defence of our knockout cup title.

The game was very even for the first ten minutes with some good passing from both sides. Then Bassett started playing their passing game which Eldene had no response. The game started to become one-sided as Bassett pushed for the first goal. The first goal came from a superb build up, a pass from Jack found Sam which was crossed in-front of the Eldene goal mouth, their goalie making a half save, which was then knocked into the net by Callum. This was shortly followed by a corner taken by Sam who found the foot of Tyler, who struck a sweet shot just passed the left hand upright. Bassett were now on top with very few chances going Eldene′s way. Bassett was awarded a free kick some 20 meters from goal; Tyler struck the post which was followed up by Sam, Bassett are now two in front. Eldene struggled to break down our strong defence of Scott, Oliver and Jack. Joe continued to catch and kick out of his hands with confidence when called upon.

Again more pressure from Bassett which saw the creation of the third goal. Fantastic build up as Tyler and Callum play the one two to beat the defence to take Bassett to 3-0 lead at half time.

Eldene came out of the blocks a little stronger in the second half taking shots at distance, which Joe always looked like he had covered. Josh was on now, playing solidly in defence. Eldene won a free kick just outside Bassett′s box, this was their opportunity to pull a goal back, the ball was fired into the crowed of players in the front of the goal mouth, Bassett cleared their lines and the threat was dealt with. Eldene continued with the pressure with a well taken corner which was punched out by Joe. Bassett started to find some width which lead to the fourth goal. Tyler releasing Sam who found Callum, who hit the net for his hat-trick a well worked goal.

At this point players were moved out of their standard positions to give our defence a chance upfront! Bassett still managed to stay on top which was confirmed by a well taken goal for Sam taking the final score to 0-5 to Wootton Bassett.

A great game which was played fairly and a good standard of football by both teams.
