Bassett′s Crossbar is peppered!

We all knew this was going to be a tough game and with Bassett not at the top of their game of late. I had my fingers, legs and anything else that I could, crossed before kick off.

Both teams started well with Shaw having the first of the shots, although at distance, not a problem for Joe. Bassett came back with some good passing starting from Jack, who picked out Tyler who played a perfect cross into Sam who cracked it into the back of the net, one nil to Bassett. Callum made a good pressurising run down the left wing, driving for Shaw′s goal, Callum shoots, and a good save by the Shaw′s goalie. Shaw responded well and came right back at Bassett down the left, a cross came in and Bassett couldn′t make the clearance, Shaw scored. All square at one a piece. Shaw are on top now trying to play their passing game and shot as distance to Joe′s right, Joe saves but hits his back on the upright. Joe could not continue, and went off injured; this forced some radical changes which saw Tyler taking Joe′s place between the sticks. Shaw won a corner which was struck very well and headed just over the bar. Shaw were placing lots of pressure on Bassett now, Jack was up to the challenge making some hard tackles, this was supported by Oliver and Scott. Shaw, again, won a corner which was hit with bend, which beat the Bassett defence to place Shaw in the lead, its now 2-1 to Shaw with half time looming. Tyler was forced to make two saves, one a catch, the other a tip over the bar from a dipping strike, these saves kept Bassett in the game. Bassett were holding their own with some one two′s driven by Ben. The pressure was now on Shaw as Bassett started to push forward, Ben found some space down the right and struck the ball well, forcing a good save. At half time its 2-1 to Shaw.

The second half started with change, Scott was now in goal for Bassett a familiar sight at the Shaw ground. Shaw came out with all guns blazing pushing Bassett back, you could see a third goal at any time. Bassett made a break down the right, a good cross from Sam, Tyler could not quite reach the ball for the tap in. Both sides were playing end to end football, testing each others defence. Shaw came back with some fantastic football carving through Bassett; they created two goal opportunities both of which hit Bassett′s cross bar. Bassett were on the back foot and need something special, and it came, from 20 yards Tyler struck a sweet shot finding the top corner of Shaw′s goal, against the run of play but well deserved. It′s now level with ten minutes to play. Shaw now threw everything they could at Bassett, Josh made some fantastic tackles keeping Shaw out. A good break down Shaw′s left allowed Shaw to have a strike at goal; a good save from Scott denied Shaw. The pressure was mounting as Shaw again it the crossbar, fulltime could not come quick enough. Suddenly Sam found some space down Bassett′s right, could this be the winner.... A good strike just left of the Shaw′s goal. Fulltime 2-2.

The "will" to win was back with some hard tackles and fantastic battling from all the players. Well done lads, a much better performance.
