Honours even in exciting game with Highworth Juniors

For this weeks match we travelled to Highworth to take on Highworth Juniors. In the first half we kicked uphill expecting it to be difficult and it was. Highworth started off the better side and halfway through the first half they scored two goals in quick succession. Bassett then dug in and started to play, Oliver and Josh both forced good saves from the Highworth goalkeeper and we started putting some good passing moves together. The remainder of the half saw some good end to end football from both sides with Reuban making two excellent saves near the end of the half to keep us in the game.

In the second half Bassett had the advantage of the slope and put Highworth under pressure right from the kick off. Our strong play soon forced a number of corners and it was from one of these that we scored. Scott put a great ball into the box which fell to Josh who rifled his shot into the back of the net. It was all Bassett now and it wasn't long before we got our second. Josh's strong run ended up with him being brought down in the area, but he picked himself up and slotted away the spot kick.

Now it was just a matter of could Highworth hold on? Max who totally dominated the midfield was very unlucky not to win the game for us and it was only good goalkeeping which prevented him scoring the winner, Niall worked very hard after coming on, Tom put in some good tackles and Martin and Scott defended very well when put under pressure. The whole team showed a lot of character to fight back from two goals down in what was a very exciting end to end match.
