Bassett dominate the derby game with Purton

So much was the Wootton Bassett dominance that keeper, Jamie Wakefield, only touched the ball three times in the first half. Bassett dominated from the first whistle with a shot from James Tasker going wide. Sam Jackson, strong in midfield, set up Leigh Little who clipped the cross bar from 20 yards and it seemed Bassett would never score. Joel Swann, Martyn Plaistow, Jordan Embling and Tasker all just failing to score, even though Bassett were playing the best football of the season so far. The first goal by Craig Mooney came from a build up and cross by Tasker and Embling and shortly thereafter Swann and Jackson linked passes to put Tasker through and make it 2-0 at half time

The Bassett back three, Little, Nicholas Southern and Alfie Passingham, who was deputising for an injured George Bartlett, had the quietest game so far this season and were never under threat from Purton.

On the break Joel Swann tumbled to the ground in the box with no penalty given but ironically it was Swann's eventual cross that was handled in the box and Jackson made it 3-0 from the penalty spot. From the kick off Bassett surged forward and Swann was get again fouled in the goal area and Jackson stepped forward to put the penalty away and make it 4-0 Substitutes were then made with David Rayner, James Pringle and Dean Ireland coming on for Southern, Embling and Plaistow. Bassett, still dominating and playing the ball around, opened up chances for Jackson, Mooney Tasker and Swann but all shots were saved. The 5th goal came after Ireland retrieved the ball from the Purton defence and sent it across goal for Tasker to score with a simple tap in.
