Big win for Bassett Under 11's

Today's game started very slowly with Wootton Bassett dominating. A lucky break on 10 minutes allowed Old Town to score and it was 1-0. This was enough to wake up the Bassett team, who then never allowed the Cubs to see goal again.

In response, on 12 minutes, a pass by Joel Swann from the half way line, pushed Craig Mooney up the wing, who in turn slipped the ball through to James Tasker, who then left three defenders in his wake to chip the ball over the keeper and make is 1-1. Both wing backs, Alfie Passingham & Jordan Daley, ran determinedly from end to end and Bassett were rewarded from a pass from Passingham into Tasker who made it 2-1 with another chip. Wootton Bassett were seldom out of the Old Town area and the 3rd goal came from a corner taken by Swann which connected with Mooney who put it in the net wide of the keeper. James Tasker then made it 4-1 and completed his hat trick by sliding the ball under the keeper. The Old Town keeper tried determinedly to stop the attack and Bassett were unlucky not to go 5-1 up after a series of shots, taken by all areas of the field. Bassett eventually made it 5-1 by a goal from Mooney in a goal mouth scramble. The attack continued and Jordan Embling scored a precision goal after running on to a ball from Daley from the half way line and sent a shot from the right hand side of the pitch, across goal, which went in off the left side post and scored. At half time the Wootton Bassett went in at 6-1.

Wootton Bassett came back out after half time and took on a rejuvenated Old Town. Bassett sat back and soaked up any attack with the defence of Leigh Little, Nicholas Southern and George Bartlett covering the goal and eliminating any danger. James Wakefield sent the ball up field from a goal kick and Mooney passed it out to Passingham who was thundering down the right hand side, beat the offside and had a shot blocked by the keeper. Tasker was able to follow up but was unable to capitalise on the keepers drop ball. Mooney was substituted and replaced by Martyn Plaistow after 15 minutes. Sam Jackson was chopped down in midfield and recovered to take a free kick into Tasker but the keeper wasn't to be beaten this time. A break by Old Town pushed the defence back and Passingham cleaned up. Little was then replaced by James Pringle who took up the defence left hand side. Wootton Bassett grew in confidence and played football the way that they can, passing and talking, with the pressure paying off when a corner was forced, this resulted in a pass from Jackson to Tasker, who buried it from 3 yards. 7-1. Perseverance and hard work by Swann paid off when he sent the ball into the top right hand corner and make it 8-1. Tasker picked up the ball and put it through for Passingham, who sent it into the box for Plaistow who scored, leaving the keeper no chance and made it 9-1. Tasker then finished the game just before the whistle with a great goal in the top right hand corner.

A great game on a very cold windy afternoon.
