Hard fought win for Under 11's

On a cold blustery winter afternoon, Wootton Bassett ground out a hard fought 2-0 victory to leave them 3rd in the league on goal difference, with a game in hand still to play.

Five minutes in to the game Joel Swann latched on to a loose ball to drive it into the bottom right corner (1-0). Moments later a good run and shot by Jordan Embling brought a great save by the Blunsdon keeper. So much was the Wootton Bassett dominance, it was 15 minutes before Jamie Wakefield in goal had his first touch of the game. Blunsdon had a good spell but were held by the defence of Leigh Little, Nicholas Southern and Alfie Passingham who made well timed tackles.

The second half started as the first finished with Wootton Bassett piling on the pressure. The running forwards of Martyn Plaistow and Graeme Silk repeatedly caused the Blunsdon defence trouble. David Rayner replaced Silk and this allowed James Tasker to take on a more forward role and his tireless effort and running was rewarded with a good goal ten minutes in to the second half (2-0). Tom Botham made his debut in the first team and replaced an injured Embling. Bassett piled on the pressure with efforts from Daley, Tasker and Jackson, all having shots saved by the Blunsdon keeper and Blunsdon only hitting back on the break, bringing two goods saves from Wakefield. James Pringle replaced a retiring Southern for the last ten minutes.

Coach Allan Daley said after the game "this was a specially pleasing performance with two key players missing, which shows the depth of the squad available for selection".
