Win for Bassett Under 11's in entertaining game

The Under 11's returned home today undefeated after an extremely entertaining game away to Malmesbury. The boys are adapting to playing on a larger pitch and today was no exception. The game started and the ball was played end to end at a fascinating rate. The defence of Leigh Little, George Bartlett & Nicholas Southern played great diagonals and kept most of Malmesbury's attack to a minimum and even when they got through they were unable to score, a lot of this was due to some feet diving and aerial manoeuvres by a greatly improved Jamie Wakefield in goal. Great chances were created by our attack, especially a shot by Jordan Daley that rebounded off of the cross bar.

We came back out in the second half and pressed forward and after a great deal of pressure in the penalty box by Alfie Passingham, an own goal was scored by the Malmesbury defence. Ten minutes later after a hand ball in the penalty box, Sam Jackson had no hesitation in making it 2-0 from the spot. Malmesbury then came at us with determination and after a second attempt at a corner scored with a header. They continued to press and nearly got the equalizer but were blocked by some solid defending and an eventual clearance off of the line by Nicholas Southern saw the end to their attack. Jamie Wakefield sent the ball down the pitch and James Tasker and Craig Mooney were free with only the goalie to beat when the final whistle blew.
