A spirited second half performance could not prevent Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 12 Blue losing 5-1 at home to runaway league leaders Devizes Town Youth.
Manager Martin Jefferies urged his team to be prepared for a highly rated Devizes side that had won 6 games in a row.
Unfortunately his side failed to heed this warning and three early goals, the first two inside five minutes, left his side with much to do.
Bassett nearly pulled a goal back with an Ed Greenouff right-footed shot that deflected off the inside of the post before a further Devizes goal gave them a four goal cushion at half time.
Firm words from the manager resulted in a much needed improvement in the second half. Thomas nearly equalised in spectacular fashion with a 45 yard free kick before Josh thundered a drive into the crossbar.
Urged on by this success Bassett pushed forward and eventually pulled a goal back with an Ed Greenouff right footed volley from close range.
Bassett continued to take the game to Devizes before a late goal left the final score 5-1.
Next up is Devizes Town Youth again in the reverse fixture.
