08 Dec 2013 - Chiseldon (H)

Another cold and cloudy afternoon for the boys in their first competitive meeting of the season against Chiseldon.

Wootton Bassett start the game brightly. Chiseldon are trying to get a passing game going but Bassett are succeeding in breaking up their play and enjoying a good part of the possession themselves.

James takes control of the ball in defense and moves the ball to Kyle. Kyle turns nicely under pressure and makes a great pass to Mo charging forward and it needs a great defensive tackle to prevent the attack.

Good work by Jordan on the left enables him to deliver a fine cross through the Chiseldon box to Jack. His first-time shot is charged down and ball comes back out to Harry at the edge of the box. Harry controls the ball nicely and delivers the ball back into the Chiseldon box to Kyle who's shot is just over the bar.

Chiseldon attack down their left but Harry M covers well, forcing the attacker into the corner before winning the ball and passing to Harry G. Harry plays a long ball back over the advanced Chiseldon defence to Mo racing through and beating offside. Mo is through but his shot thumps the post.

Wootton Bassett keep applying pressure on the Chiseldon midfield and a great ball through the middle of their defence to Kyle who beats the out-rushing keeper to the ball and rounds him to poke the ball home.

Bassett 1 – 0

Chiseldon apply the pressure straight back and make quick progress down the left. The ball is delivered into the box and Bassett can't clear it. It keeps coming back at them until eventually it falls to a spare Chiseldon player out left who shoots past a diving Dan to equal the scores.

Bassett 1 – 1

Wootton Bassett keep trying to put pressure on the ball in the Chiseldon half but Chiseldon break and rush through, beating offside. Their attacker is one-on-one with Daniel but Daniel makes a fantastic one handed save to push the ball past the post.

Bassett start to build from the back and Kieran pushes a great ball through the middle, between 2 defenders. Mo collects and lays off to Jack but the Chiseldon keeper is out quickly and smothers the shot.

Chiseldon break from the goal kick and Harry G has to move fast to cover the attack. Chiseldon win a corner which is delivered into the heart of the Bassett box. A goalmouth scramble ensues and the ball is eventually cleared over the bar.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett White 1 Chiseldon 1

Early in the second half Jordan delivers a super ball into space down the left. Kyle gets a foot in to beat the Chiseldon defender rounds another to make room for a shot but it goes just wide of the left hand post.

Chiseldon attack again but Daniel is out quickly and clears well upfield, Kieran collects and delivers a great ball through to Mo with Kyle just outside but the referee blows for a foul. The free kick is intercepted and a Chiseldon attacker carves a path right through the Wootton Bassett defence but he tries one trick too many and the Whites are able to clear.

Bassett attack straight back and Zach puts in a super pass to Kyle who runs onto the ball and gets his shot away. The Chiseldon keeper makes a fine save but the ball comes out towards Mo but he is just beaten to it and Chiseldon clear.

Chiseldon put together a nice passing move that sees them progress through the Bassett defence. The Whites can't get a meaningful tackle in and the final forward has time to pick his shot passed Daniel.

Bassett 1 – 2

James, Jordan, and Kyle combine well on the right to move the ball with simple passes upfield but the final cross goes out of play.

Chiseldon win a free kick just inside the Bassett half. The free kick is driven in and the Whites defence can't get control to clear. The ball pops up for a Chiseldon forward to rifle the ball into the back of the Bassett net.

Bassett 1 – 3

The Whites aren't giving up and keep trying to work the ball back into the Chiseldon half. Chiseldon clear one attempt to halfway where the ball is met by James where James launches it back with a nice half-volley. The Chiseldon keeper seems to have it covered but the ball squirms through his grasp and trickles towards the Chiseldon goal line where Mo sprints in and pokes the ball home to make sure of the goal.

Bassett 2 – 3

Time must be nearly up but Bassett have got their tails up and push hard, looking for the equaliser. The ball is worked down the left where Jordan delivers a great cross into the danger area where it is met by Brads head at the back post to level the scores right at the death.

The crowd go wild !

Result - Wootton Bassett White 3 Chiseldon 3

Coaches Comments : Although scrappy at times and a little disjointed we believe that the draw was a fair result (even if it was at the death!) It shows that the boys are growing in commitment and desire to win and improve their game. It also emphasizes the training we have employed to improve their stamina as much as their football skills is paying off. Training is just that, Training. We are trying to improve their whole match enjoyment as the season moves on. So well done boys enjoy Christmas and the New Year and we will see you in 2014. Darren, Mark and Rich

Wootton Bassett Whites : Zach Bunce, Muhammed Cham, James Evans (Capt), Kieran Gorman, Harry Griffin, Jordan Langford, Jack Large, Ross Leahy. Kyle Legg, Harry Melling, Brad Sealey, Daniel York
