13 Oct 2013 - Highworth Town Juniors 'T' (A)

The rain arrived in Highworth before the teams did and didn't let up for the whole time we were there. By the time kick-off arrived everyone was thoroughly soaked through but the game must go on !

Wootton Bassett Whites start brightly and look to get their passing game going from the off. There's some good work in midfield with Zak, Zed and Harley combining nicely with a good sequence of crisp passes.

Bassett win a free kick outside the Highworth box. Jordan steps up and delivers a beautiful trademark cross into the danger area. The Highworth keeper comes out to punch clear but misses the ball and it falls to Jack to slot home from 6 yards.

Bassett 1 – 0

The Whites keep up the pressure on Highworth and continue to have the best of the play. Brad, sitting in the middle of the midfield, is using the ball well and making some intelligent passes and getting tackles in to break up the Highworth possession.

Harry and Matthew are pushing upfield and getting their tackles in well up the pitch. James makes a tackle at the back and passes down the line to Jordan slightly more advanced. Jordan delvers a nicely weighted pass to Harley who is breaking down the left. Harley is tackled and the ball goes for a throw which Zach takes and aims in front of Zak travelling at pace. Zak beats the Highworth keeper to the ball but he manages to make a save as Zak tries to lift the ball over him. The keeper is now on the floor as the ball comes back to Zak but just manages to get up in time to get a hand to Zak's second attempt and prevent another goal.

Jordan takes a throw-in to Zak who neatly chests the ball into Zach's path. Zach delivers a great ball across the Highworth box to Nial but, as the Highworth keeper rushes out to meet him, his shot goes just wide.

The Whites find themselves under a bit of pressure for a period and a scramble in their own box results in the ball being cleared off the line. Zak takes the ball and runs out, making a nice pass to Zach outside him to the right. Wootton Bassett surge forward and Zach slips the ball to Mo flashing up outside of him. The Highworth keeper is rushing out again to meet him but Mo keeps a calm head and makes a lovely chip shot over the advancing keeper and follows up to put the ball in the back of the Highworth net for the second time.

Bassett 2 – 0

Bassett advance again and Harry makes a good pass down the right-hand line to Zak who uses nice individual skill to beat a couple of Highworth players in midfield but his run is intercepted and the half is brought to a close.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 2 Highworth Town T 0

Wootton Bassett start the second half in the same vein. Zach and Zed battling away on the left, trying to feed into Zak and Jack buzzing around the edge of the Highworth penalty area. Brad delivers a class pass through the Highworth defence but Mo is adjudged offside.

Highworth pick up the ball and make some progress down their right. Harry breaks up their progress and passes back to Ross around the half way line who delivers a first time effort that very nearly beats the Highworth keeper.

Highworth come back at Bassett again and run the ball into the Whites area. The ball ricochets around in the area and Bassett are unable to clear. Several shots are blocked by Daniel but eventually the ball falls to a Highworth forward in a bit of space who manages to poke the ball into the net.

Bassett 2 – 1

Almost straight from the restart Highworth work the ball back in to the Whites area and again we can't clear the ball and Highworth equalize.

Bassett 2 – 2

Wootton Bassett seem to be under a lot more pressure in this half. James makes a great tackle to win the ball and makes a run at Highworth up the right. Zed takes the ball further upfield and lifts a little chip shot over the Highworth defence to Mo running on his left. Mo collects but his shot goes just wide.

Highworth return the ball with a long goal kick which James can't quite get to. A Highworth forward is first to the ball and beats several chasing defenders before shooting past a diving Daniel to put Highworth in front.

Bassett 2 – 3

The boys are trying to organise themselves to press for an equalizer. Mo breaks down the left but is unable to get through the Highworth defence. Highworth break back straight through the middle, beating all challenges, and the forward leaves Daniel with no chance as he increases Highworth's lead.

Bassett 2 – 4

Result - Wootton Bassett Whites 2 Highworth Town T 4

Man Of The Match :This weeks award goes to Jack Large. His first well deserved goal for the team where he didnt give up and chased the ball in to score in the same way that he chased every ball in the game.

Coaches Comments : A well marshalled first half where the defence kept their positions as they were asked but unfortunately lost a bit of concentration in the second half. BUT we have proved that we can do it. It will all come together if we listen, communicate and work as a unit.

Wootton Bassett Whites : Zach Bunce, Muhammed Cham (1), Harley Dack,James Evans, Zed James, Jordan Langford, Jack Large (1), Ross Leahy, Harry Melling, Matthew Nicholls, Brad Sealey, Zak Thompson, Nial Wright, Daniel York
