15 Sep 2013 - Fairford Town Youth (A)

Wootton Bassett White's travelled to Fairford for their first 11-a-side of the new 2013/14 season against Fairford Town Youth. This is the White's first season at 11-a-side and several new faces have joined the team over the summer. The weather had turned colder and threatened rain but fortunately this held off.

Wootton Bassett started trying to get the passing game going early on but were immediately put under pressure by a quick Fairford front-line who pounced on a slightly under hit pass backwards, and rounded JordanW in the Bassett goal to put them 1 up in the first couple of minutes.

Bassett 0 – 1

Fairford win the ball and attack straight from the restart. Their forwards flood through the Bassett defence in numbers and leave Jordan W no chance as they slot home to make it 2 – 0.

Bassett 0 – 2

Wootton Bassett came under a sustained period of pressure after the goals and aren't able to get any time on the ball. Matthew, James and Harry are kept busy as Fairford keep pushing a long ball over the Bassett defence as they push up and relying on the speed of 3 forwards who rush through to pressure the White's goal. After some scrappy play in midfield the ball falls to a Fairford player in his own half and he once again provides the ball ‘over the top'. The ball is taken down nicely by the Fairford forward who shoots past the diving Jordan W to make it 3.

Bassett 0 – 3

Wootton Bassett try to settle down a bit and manage to put some passes together in a good passage of play. Jordan L makes a nice play out of his own half to Zach in midfield. Bassett advance but the move is broken up by Fairford but then won straight back by Zak on the edge of the box. Zak manages to get a shot on target but it is well saved by the Fairford keeper.

Fairford continue to advance down field though and Jordan W is keptbusy by a steady stream of Fairford breaks and he makes some fine saves to keep the score down.

Bassett persistance though wins a corner but this comes to nothing. Fairford break upfield but Daniel makes a great tackle to prevent this attack. Zach picks up the ball in midfield and makes a nice pass and run with Brad. Brad obliges with the pass back in to Zachs path but his shot is just wide.

Bassett try to push up whenever they have possession as they chase the game but Fairford are able to break at speed again and their forwards are too quick for the Bassett defenders. The Fairford forwards shot goes over Jordan W's outstretched hand but comes back off the post straight back into his arms.

Jordan L makes a great interception in midfield but Fairford win the ball back and flood through again. This time the shot is just wide of the Bassett post.

A Bassett goal kick falls straight to a Fairford midfielder who takes a chance and bangs it straight back into the back of the Bassett net to make it 4.

Bassett 0 – 4

Just before half-time a Fairford forward is tripped in the corner of the Bassett penalty area and the ref has no hesitation in awarding a penalty. However, the penalty kick is blasted way over the Bassett crossbar to keep the score at 4 – 0 at the break.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett 0 Fairford Town 4

Wootton Bassett start the second half positively and put some pressure on Fairford at first but are unable to break through and make any sort of impact on the Fairford goal. Fairford pick up the ball at the back and make progress down their right. A cross is delivered into the Bassett box which is unfortunately turned into the net by a Bassett defender as they try to clear.

Bassett 0 – 5

From the restart Jack is fed the ball on the right with a nice pass from Brad. Jack bursts through with nice control and a great turn of speed and his shot is well saved by the Fairford keeper. Bassett press again and Ollie makes several important challenges on the edge of the Fairford box but each time Fairford are able to clear. Zed is keeping busy in the middle and is picking up loose balls and trying to feed Jack and Zak as Bassett chase a goal.

Bassett win a free kick outside the Fairford area. Jordan L steps up but his curled effort slips just wide of the Fairford left post. Jack and Zak once again combine on the right of the Fairford box but Bassett are frustrated again. Matthew is trying to break up the play as Fairford break again but the Fairford forwards are too quick again as they win the ball in midfield and pile forwards in numbers. 3 attackers on one keeper and Fairford score again.

Bassett 0 – 6

Zach wins a tackle on halfway and makes a lovely pass to Jordan L who then lays off nicely to Zak breaking down the left but the great passage of play comes to nothing as Fairford win the ball back. Fairfrd win a throw on the left which is picked up on the edge of the Bassett box. A neat turn gives the foerward room to shoot past a despairing Jordan W into the top cornet of the Bassett net.

Bassett 0 – 7

Ross is playing tight to the right hand side and advances well into the Fairford half before winning a corner. James delivers a great cross into the danger area and Bassett are unlucky not to get a touch on it.

Fairford are still piling on the pressure and win the ball in midfield. A little run to the edge of the box results in a little chip shot over the advancing keeper to make it 8.

Bassett 0 – 8

Zak continues to try and get Bassett on the score sheet and advances into the Fairford box, weaving left and right to try and make room for himself to shoot but cannot get his shot away.
