03 Nov 2013 - Old Town United Blue (H)

Wootton Bassett Whites entertain Old Town Utd Blue at Ballards Ash on an initially bright and sunny afternoon. Although a little cool the strong winds of the previous day have dropped considerably but there is the odd cloud in the sky that could threaten a shower later on.

Wootton Bassett make a good positive start and immediately try to exert pressure on the Old Town defence. Mo picks up the ball on the edge of his own penalty area and is able to run the length of the pitch, skipping past any challenges, but is forced out wide left. Mo passes just inside to Zak who has chased up in support who then gives it back as Mo find a bit of space. Mo's shot goes straight across the face of goal and Zed, rushing up on the right is not quite able to get a touch.

Old Town push back and a midfielder beats 3 Bassett defenders to threaten the Whites goal. The ball is knocked out but Old Town are able to deliver a cross from the resulting throw-in. Wootton Bassett can't clear the ball and it comes out to the edge of the box where an Old Town player fires it back passed Daniels outstretched hands into the Bassett net.

Bassett 0 – 1

After the restart Jack collects the ball and makes a superb turn on the half way line. He passes to Mo who again is forced out wide left but manages to win a corner. Zak takes and floats a nice ball into the heart of the Old Town box. Mo challenges in the air and the balls loops out towards Jack who's overhead kick is only just off target.

Wootton Bassett win another corner on the right a little later and this time Jordan goes short to Zed, taking the Old Town defence by surprise, and Zed is able to make a nice little chip shot but into the side netting.

Bassett continue to pressure Old Town, looking for an equaliser. Matt makes a nice throw-in over the defenders into the Old Town area and Mo leaps on the chance. He jinks left and right and gets his shot off. The Old Town keeper gets a hand to it but is unable to stop it and the ball crosses the line.

Bassett 1 – 1

Matt is involved again and delivers a super ball through the Old Town defence to Mo who is just onside. Mo is faster than the defenders chasing him and coolly slots home passed the Old Town keeper.

Bassett 2 – 1

The Whites win a free kick in the Old Town half but Old Town quickly win the ball back and break at speed. Their attacker is left one-on-one with Daniel but Daniel stands tall and makes a fine save from the resulting shot.

Old town attack down the left. With some neat passing they manage to work the ball into the Bassett box and the ball is pulled back to the penalty area where an Old Town forward is in space to shoot but his shot drifts over the bar.

Harley is doing some good work on the left. He passes to Mo who breaks tackles on the edge of the Old Town box and gives the ball to Jack in space. Jack slams a great goal into the roof of the Old Town net for Bassett's third.

Half Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 3 Old Town Utd Blue 1

Old Town start the second half the better of the 2 sides and put Bassett under sustained early pressure. Jordan and James are called upon to make some important covering tackles but, at times, Bassett can't clear the ball. Harry is also working hard to break up the Old Town forays and is staying close to their attackers.

Harley and Mo combine down the left and Mo delivers a cross to Jack inside the area. Jack lays of nicely to Zak but his shot is well saved.

Zed collects at halfway and passes to Mo just ahead. Mo goes it alone through the Old Town defence and makes a confident finish for his hat trick.

Bassett 4 – 1

Old Town aren't out of it yet and break straight back down their left. A nice cross into the Bassett box isn't dealt with and the Old Town attacker is able to poke it home.

Bassett 4 – 2

Old Town continue to attacker and Zed is installed at left back to try and take the sting out of the Old Town pace down that side. Nial wins the ball in midfield and delivers to Zak who has a quick run before delivering to Mo in a crowded Old Town area. The ball pings around in the box but eventually pops out to Zach who hits a great first-time shot but onto the Old town crossbar.

Old Town break quickly again but Jordan races back to intercept and makes a great challenge to prevent this attack.

Coaches Comments : After the recent changes of management this match was played in an impressive and committed way with all the boys showing strong determination and some good football. A great win was had on a very hard day against a strong team who were playing some good passing football with structure. We believe that as the squad progresses through the season then with hard work and commitment to the new training and match day regime then there is great potential within.
