29 Sep 2013 - Highworth Town Juniors 'J' (H)

Wootton Bassett Whites welcome Highworth Town Juniors J to Ballards Ash for their first home game of the season. The morning started cool and overcast but warmed up as the sun came out.

Very early on the Whites give away a free kick on the edge of their penalty area but Daniel makes a fine save from the direct shot.

A Bassett goal kick by James is picked up at halfway by Jordan. Jordan controls nicely and delivers the ball to Mo moving down the left. Mo continues his run into the Highworth box but his shot is into the side netting.

Highworth bring the ball out from the back and are able to progress through the middle of the Bassett midfield. The attacker gets a shot away from the edge of the box and it sails into the top corner of the net, leaving Daniel with no chance.

Bassett 0 – 1

Bassett push back from the restart and Zed brings in Zak breaking at speed. Zak shoots but the keeper clears but only as far as Mo whose shot is collected comfortably by the Highworth keeper. Highworth break back and beat the offside trap as the Bassett defence is pushed up. The Highworth forwards are quick but Harry is able to push the attacker wide and his shot from a narrow angle is saved by Daniel.

Highworth win a throw on their left and with no effective tackle being made by a Bassett player they are able to advance again to the edge of the Bassett box. The shot comes hard and low past Daniel into the bottom corner.

Bassett 0 – 2

Another James goal-kick reaches Zak in midfield. Zak finds Zach who makes a neat little chip over the Highworth defenders to Mo. Mo returns the ball to Zach running through but the move is broken up by the Highworth defence.

Highworth enjoy a period of sustained pressure as Bassett struggle to keep possession. A Highworth corner is scrambled away out to the left but the resulting cross / shot loops over Daniels outstretched hand for Highworth's third.

Bassett 0 – 3

Wootton Bassett attack from the restart with Zed and Jack combining on the right. Mo gets the ball but is well tackled and Highworth break again, beating the offside trap. Daniel makes a great save when 1-on-1 with the attacker.

Bassett win a free kick in the Highworth half and Jordan delivers a lovely cross into the box. Mo can't quite get his shot off and the ball is pushed out left to Ross whose shot is just wide of the left post.

Highworth come straight back at the Whites though and a fine piece of individual skill allows a forward to burst through 1-on-1 with Daniel again. This time Daniel is left with no chance as the attacker slots home.

Bassett 0 – 4

Highworth win the ball straight from the restart and the forwards are too fast for the Bassett defence and make it 5.

Bassett 0 – 5

Highworth come again down the left and progress into the Bassett box again. A shot comes in from a narrow angle and Daniel gets his hands to it, but it's too powerful and slips past him into the net.

Bassett 0 – 6.

Half Time Wootton Bassett 0 Highworth 6

Wootton Bassett start the second half positively and some good build-up play sees James pass to Zak who brings in Mo in on goal but the shot is just wide right. Wootton Bassett win a corner which is superbly delivered by Jordan right into the danger area. Zach meets the cross with a great volley but it slips wide of the right upright.

A Bassett free kick is cleared by Highworth who are first to the ball. They break at speed and 3 forwards are though the Bassett defence and on goal. Daniel rushes out and makes a great block but the ball is pushed out to the left where it is pounced upon by Highworth for number 7.

Bassett 0 – 7

Highworth miss a penalty from a clumsy tackle but it's Bassett who seem to be permanently under pressure as Highworth continue their assault. The Whites just can't keep the ball. A goal kick is picked up by Mo who makes a neat turn and is able to make some space to run into. A great pass finds Zak running through in space but his shot is well saved.

Highworth break again at speed down the right and Daniel is called upon again to make 2 superb saves in quick succession to deny them this time. Highworth keep the pressure on, this time down the left, and are able to move the ball across in front of goal where they shoot to score number 8.

Bassett 0 – 8

From the restart Highworth win a throw on the left. Their forward picks up the ball and makes a run down the left virtually unchallenged. A well-judged chip over an advancing Daniel makes it 9.

Bassett 0 – 9

Wootton Bassett are continuing to push up. Zak and Mo trying to make a difference but Highworth come again down the left. A pass across the box beats Daniel for a simple tap in at the back post.

Bassett 0 – 10

Zach gives the ball to Ross who sets up Zed to make a surging run forward. There's no way through so the ball comes back to Jordan who provides a nicely weighted pass down the line to Mo. Mo makes progress down the wing and delivers a nice cross to Zed but his shot is just wide.

Mo and Zak combine again down the left. Zed gets involved and passes back to Mo inside the box whose shot goes past the diving Highworth keeper into the net for his first goal of the season, and the first goal scored by a Bassett player this season (and incidentally the first goal that Highworth have conceded this season !).

Bassett 1 – 10

Harley makes a great tackle to break up another Highworth attack on the left and starts a Bassett break down the left. Mo delivers a nice cross which Highworth hustle out for a corner but this is the last action of the game.
