24 Nov 2013 - Ashton Keynes (A)

Wootton Bassett Whites travelled for their 3rd away game in a row to Ashton Keynes to face the current, unbeaten, league leaders. The afternoon was cold and cloudy but no rain.

Wootton Bassett start positively and have a good share of the early play. James covers an Ashton Keynes cross and, with a bit of time, slots a nice pass down the line to Kyle running down the left. Kyle beats a defender and gets a cross into the Ashton Keynes box. Mo is stretching but can't quite connect but Zak is racing in outside of him to get to the loose ball but he is challenged and the ball is cleared.

Ashton Keynes win the ball in midfield and with a series of neat passes work the ball out to the left and towards the Bassett goal. The shot is driven with pace and precision passed Daniel to give Ashton Keynes the lead.

Bassett 0 – 1

A Bassett goal-kick is picked up by Mo. He beats a tackle and chips over the Ashton Keynes defenders to Kyle running through. The Ashton Keynes keeper rushes out to meet him but he gets a shot away but it slips just wide of the post.

Wootton Bassett find themselves under pressure as Ashton Keynes press forward. There's a spell of scrappy play in the Bassett half but the Whites are eventually able to clear the ball. The boys apply a bit of pressure of their own and Zach delivers a great ball to Mo who neatly passes back to Zach as he moves forward into space. Ashton Keynes intercept and clear the ball but only as far as James near halfway who blasts it back towards the Ashton Keynes goal but it goes just over the bar.

Ashton Keynes break down their left but Harry G makes a great covering tackle to disrupt the attack. Zach and Jack are battling in midfield, harassing the Ashton Keynes players into mistakes and breaking up their possession.

But Ashton Keynes get themselves organised again and exert more pressure. There's a scramble in the Bassett box and the ball is cleared off the Whites goal line, but they can't clear the area and the ball is worked out to the right. The ball is driven through the Bassett defence to an Ashton Keynes forward at the back post who pokes it in for their second.

Bassett 0 – 2

Ashton Keynes break from the restart and their player beats tackles on the right before getting his cross in. The cross is met with a fierce shot but Daniel makes a great save to push the ball over the bar.

Ashton Keynes are enjoying a lot of possession but Wootton Bassett are defending robustly and preventing any Ashton Keynes chances. The Whites try to break but Mo and Jack are a little isolated and aren't able to keep the ball.

Bassett keep pushing out and move the ball to Zak. Under pressure he lays back to Nial who makes a nice pass into Mo but with his back to goal. There's no room for Mo to turn but Kyle is backing him up and takes the ball and shoots but the Ashton Keynes keeper is able to save.

Ashton Keynes attack back down the left. The ball is crossed in and a shot is well saved by Daniel but he can't hold on to it and an Ashton Keynes forward jumps on the loose ball to score.

Bassett 0 – 3

Ashton Keynes enjoy another period of pressure, passing around the Wootton Bassett defenders. A forward beats several challenges en-route in the Bassett box but his shot is dragged wide.

Ashton Keynes win a free-kick near the halfway line. The ball comes into the box and Bassett can't clear it. Daniel makes a fine save from the first shot but the ball goes out to another Ashton Keynes player and Daniel is forced to make another save straight away, pushing the ball over the bar to safety.

The Wootton Bassett defenders, assisted by Zach, are all involved in a scramble to get the ball out of the Bassett area. Matt throws in body in front of the ball to deny Ashton Keynes again.

Ashton Keynes win a corner which is crossed in and met at the near post for their 4th.

Bassett 0 – 4

Aston Keynes keep pushing forward and Bassett are struggling to get of their own half. They do manage to move the ball out left and Ross makes a fine run with the ball in to the corner. He holds the ball up well but the support he needs doesn't materialize in time and possession is lost.

Coaches Comments : Unfortunately a very bitty performance following last week's match. Possibly we all felt a little invincible going into today's game (including the coaches) ? However it was still a very good result against the league leaders and speaking to their coach afterwards he was very impressed with our squad and said that they came to today's game expecting a strong game which was what we gave them. We feel with continued support and commitment from all the boys that we can consistently strive to better our football and progress within the league.
