Sunday 7th February 2010 - Penhill Allstars (A)

Still struggling for numbers, Bassett arrived on this tiny muddy pitch hoping to build further on last week's fantastic performance and it started well with Coxy and George threatening from the off. Isaac, restored to goalkeeper, was something of a spectator and it looked like it would be a matter of time before we scored. Harry looked to snuff out any danger, combining well with James and Matt at the back.

The small pitch was a major factor though as George was unable to find space to work any magic down the wing and Coxy was having to snatch at half chances in limited space. Despite some delightful inter-passing, there always seemed to be a gaggle of players around to cancel out creativity. Isaac's return between the sticks was celebrated in fine form as he tipped a certain goal around the post but, just moments later, he was unable to keep out a Penhill shot that came after he had parried one out. 0 – 1

This set-back didn't daunt us, though, and there was time for a delightful spin from Matt down the wing and a further shot from Coxy that smashed back from the post.

Half-time: 0 – 1

The second half began with a rash of Bassett attacks and Coxy has to count himself very unlucky not have bagged a hatful of goals as chance after chance was created. Bassett's reward finally came after a Penhill mix up which sent the ball out to Matt who slotted in neatly inside the post: 1 – 1

This gave our lads fresh heart and it is difficult to understand how the match then fell away from them. The small pitch played its part again though and a Penhill goal was scrambled home against the run of play : 1 – 2

Bassett had to go for it which meant more players edging upfield leaving gaps at the back and it was a breakaway that was to see a third Penhill strike, again very much against the run of play: 1 – 3

A fourth Penhill goal moments later was cruel justice for this Bassett team who were now visibly flagging with, once more, no subs. available to provide fresh legs.

Coxy was to get his final reward with a confident penalty kick slammed into the top corner after an Allstars defender handballed in the box : 2 – 4
