Sunday 6th December 2009 - Cirencester Town 'A' (H)

After the excellent victory over Wanborough in the last round the team had the job of trying to beat a Cirencester Town A team who after winning the North Division last season were currently top of Division 1 this season and hadn't lost a game.

If things weren't difficult enough the team was decimated as Ben was unavailable and then both Scott and George were taken ill in the morning.

We actually started the game with only 6 players and James in goal until Isaac arrived after changing into his kit in the car, as his parents were delayed in traffic on their way back from London.

You could then see why Ciren were a good side as they passed the ball around and Harry, Matthew and James defended very well and Isaac made several excellent saves.

The visitors scored 3 goals in the first half, but the honour of the best goal of the game was ours as Declan Cox smashed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box after a delightful turn.

Half-Time 1-3

The 2nd half was very competitive and our midfield of Declan Cox and Declan Coffey tried very hard to find Bailey, who was working hard up front on his own.

We had a couple of chances to get another goal but our visitors added 3 more goals before the final whistle that Isaac had no chance with.

A final score of 1-6 against a team unbeaten in the league for 2 seasons was a very good effort by our 7 players, who never gave up for the whole match and we also scored the best goal of the match.

I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone from Cirencester Town who allowed the start of the game to be delayed due to our difficulties and Dave Groom the referee who was also very understanding and had a very good game.

Team- Isaac, Harry, James, Matthew, Declan Cox, Declan Coffey and Bailey.

Player of the match- Declan Cox who scored a cracking goal and worked hard in an unfamiliar midfield role.
