Sunday 14th February 2010 - Greenmeadow Youth (A)

A short report after another of those matches that will ultimately make men of these young footballers. They actually played some good stuff at times but were opened up time after time by some skilful turns and touches from 3 or 4 lads who were ultimately the difference today (we had none of any of the luck going either by the way!). Isaac made several great saves, Bailey started to really get stuck in and James was able to further build on his defensive skills. George showed one or two lovely tricks and Dec showed flashes of his undoubted talent. Harry made several tremendous tackles and our new recruit, Ollie, threw himself wholeheartedly at the challenge from beginning to end.

Our opponents should surely be playing in a higher league and it would be interesting to see them against full strength opposition, but from our point of view we should be proud of the outstanding attitude of the Bassett lads today.

As Kipling said, 'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two impostors just the same...you'll be a Man, my son!'

Man of the match: Matthew Nicholls – another great performance from Matt. On a difficult day to be a defender, he kept doing the right things and fought from start to finish.
