Sunday 21st March 2010 - Wroughton Youth 'A' (H)

A full strength Bassett "A" team entertained Wroughton Youth in their latest league fixture in what proved to be a very tough match. Wroughton had most of the ball in the opening moments and created two good chances. The first followed a slip in the Bassett defence and Conor was required to make a brave save at the back post. This was quickly followed by a long range shot that was again well saved by Conor.

Bassett took the lead against the run of play as Tyler tackled back to win the ball. He then found Euan who travelled from midfield and shot as he got the edge of the Wroughton box. The ball bounced up off the outstretched leg of a Wroughton defender and looped over the keeper to make it 1-0 Bassett.

The next ten minutes saw both teams work really hard but no clear chances were created. On 14 minutes Bassett almost increased their lead as a shot-cross from Euan was met by Tyler who put the ball narrowly over the bar. Wroughton drew level on 18 minutes. Bassett failed to deal with a long ball down the middle, the Wroughton forward calmly slotting the lose ball passed the advancing Conor.

As half time drew close, Euan once again came out from midfield and unleashed a shot that went just wide of the post.

Half Time: 1-1

The first chance of the second half fell to Bassett when Tyler chased down a long clearance, his first time shot going narrowly wide. On 33 minutes Tyler did get reward for his hard work when he scored to put Bassett back in front. Jordan T collected the ball and tried a long shot. The Wroughton keeper pushed the ball away and straight into the path of Tyler as he followed up to score.

Wroughton almost drew level again with a classic counter attack. Following a Bassett free kick the loose ball was collected in the Wroughton box and 4 Wroughton players broke at speed. Some neat passing created a great scoring opportunity but Conor made a fine save to keep Bassett in the lead.

Bassett went straight back on the attack and Tyler chased the ball down on the right. His cross was met by Zach who put the ball just over from 6 yards. A minute later Zach had another chance as he turned on the edge of the Wroughton box and shot, forcing the Wroughton keeper into a good save. On 40 minutes Wroughton drew level again as Bassett failed to clear the ball and the Wroughton forward scored with a smart shot from close range.

Both teams had the opportunity to win the game in the final stages. Following some good work by Jordan WT on the left, the ball fell to Euan, whose shot went narrowly wide. This was closely followed by a Wroughton chance when a cross from the right found the forward unmarked in the box but luckily for Bassett the forward didn't get proper contact on his shot.

Full-time: 2-2

Coach's Match Analysis: A difficult game against a very good team who play the game the right way. We worked hard and scored 2 good goals. Our teamwork was the most pleasing aspect of this game. We created some good chances from the passing game that we played. It would have been hard on either team to lose and a draw was a fair result. Our throw-ins still need some work on but they were an improvement to last week

Player of the Match: Worked tirelessly, chased every ball and harassed the Wroughton defenders, today's POTM award goes to Tyler Fitchett.

Team: Conor Chivers, Lewis Ward, Jordan Taylor, Alanah Edwards, Euan Burke (Capt), Callum Bridges, Zach Bunce, Jordan Wright-Thompson, Tyler Fitchett, Beckham Hulbert
