Sunday 13th September 2009 - Hungerford Town 'A' (A)

As we travelled up the M4 to play Hungerford the big question was how the team would respond to their 3rd match in 7 days and with only 8 players available.

The team started very confidently with some excellent passing football from back to front, which was a delight to watch on a lovely morning.

With all 7 players passing very well it was a no surprise that we made the breakthrough from a Hungerford goal kick which was controlled by Euan just inside our half, who then took two steps forward and drilled the ball into the net before the goalkeeper could regain his position from long range and his 6th goal of the season already.

Our back 3 of Jordan Taylor, Lewis and Alanah brought the ball out of defence very well and Conor was alert when the ball did get past them and also made a couple of good saves when called upon.

We got our 2nd goal when a long pass found Zach in space and he dispatched the ball into the bottom corner after turning past his marker.

The game was very exciting to watch and Hungerford played some excellent football in a match that was a great spectacle and a great advert for this age group.

With half time drawing near another clinical finish by Zach, this time with his left foot finished another excellent move and continued the excellent start he has made for us with his 7th goal of the season.

Half-Time 3-0

If anybody thought that the game was over they would soon realise just how well we had played in the first half to earn that lead against a very good Hungerford team, who came back at us in vengence at the start of the 2nd half.

Hungerford got the goal their pressure deserved when a cross field ball caught us out and an excellent finish saw them back into the game.

The game swung from end to end as both teams tried to get further goals and from our corner the home team broke away and although Conor made a good initial save it ran into the path of the forward who struck the ball into the top corner.

With 10 minutes of the match to go we then dug in very deep and Callum and Jordan Wright worked very hard on the flanks for us to dispel the pressure that we found ourselves under.

Both Zach and Euan had good runs to make the game safe for us, but a good save from the keeper and a post stopped that happening.

We then saw the final 5 minutes out with a dogged determination to make it 3 wins from our opening 3 games.

The pleasing thing from our opening games has been how well we've passed the ball as a team and the work rate has been top class from all of the players. We are not a win at all costs team, but it's very satisfying when the players get rewarded for the good things that they do.

Full-Time 3-2

Match Summary: Another outstanding team performance and the team dug deep into their energy reserves in the last 10 minutes when they were tiring after 3 games in 7 days, against a very good Hungerford Team.

Player of the Match: A joint decision by the Hungerford management, who picked both Jordan Taylor and Euan Burke.

Team: Conor Chivers, Alanah Edwards, Jordan Taylor, Euan Burke, Jordan Wright, Callum Bridges and Zach Bunce.
