Sunday 4th October 2009 - Shrivenham & Watchfield (H)

The U10 "A" Team returned to Rylands Way looking to maintain their 100% win record and further their excellent start to the season.

From the kick-off Bassett meant business and put the Shrivenham defence under a lot of pressure. On 2 minutes Bassett took the lead when Jordan Thompson's shot was parried by the Shrivenham keeper for Callum to follow up and score his first goal of the season from 6 yards.

A few minutes later Bassett almost went 2 up when an excellent move started from defence, saw some neat passing between Jordan Taylor, Lewis and Euan before Jordan Thompsn shot went just wide of the far post. Shrivenham had their first dangerous attack on 6 minutes when a right wing looping cross was pushed away by Conor, the ball being headed back and against the post by the Shrivenham forward.

The next 5 minutes saw some excellent passing football by both teams but strong and timely defending kept the chances to a minimum. On 11 minutes, a superb tackle by Alanah, followed by a long clearance allowed Zach 1-on-1 with the Shrivenham keeper. Only a brave save by the keeper kept the score at 1-0.

On 16 minutes a Shrivenham goal kick was picked up in midfield by Jordan Thompson. Jordan controlled the ball, advanced towards goal and then unleashed an unstoppable shot that flew into the top left hand corner, 2-0 Bassett.

Three minutes later a corner from Lewis produced a glancing header from Beckham which went just wide of the post. Shortly after, another Lewis corner found Zach just 4 yards out from goal, but unfortunately this time the header went narrowly over the bar.

The last action of the half was in the Bassett box. A Shrivenham attack was broken down by an excellent covering tackle by Alanah, the ball was not totally cleared and a good shot was well saved by Conor.

Half Time: 2-0

Bassett created the first chance of the second half as Euan advanced from midfield. His shot was well saved by the Shrivenham keeper. A minute later Shrivenham attacked down the left and a firm shot produced a magnificent one-handed save by Conor to keep the score at 2-0.

Another Shrivenham attack was stopped by Lewis, who passed the ball to Jordan Thompson. Jordan made a diagonal run and past out wide to Euan. Euan travelled a few yards and shot towards goal, which produced another fine save by the Shrivenham keeper.

With 2 minutes to go a clearance out of the Bassett defence by Jordan Taylor was headed on by Lewis to Zach. Zach's shot was pushed away by the Shrivenham keeper. Lewis was quickest to the loose ball but his first time shot went narrowly wide.

Full-time: 2-0

Match Analysis: Another good win by Bassett against a skilful and hard working Shrivenham team. The second clean sheet in as many weeks pays credit to some excellent defending and glove work. The midfield and attack moved the ball around nicely but on occasions the shot was preferred when a pass to a fellow team mate would have been the better option.

Player of the Match: Composed and self assured on the ball, strong and confident in the tackle, today's POTM award goes to Jordan Taylor.

Team: Conor Chivers, Lewis Ward, Jordan Taylor, Alanah Edwards, Euan Burke (Capt), Callum Bridges, Zach Bunce, Jordan Thompson, Beckham Hulbert
