Controversy as Bassett go down at Highworth

The way the Bassett side approached this game was fantastic, with strength and assertiveness being at the highest standard of any match we have played. A new formation meant we had a resilient defence and mid-field capable of moving forward to attack. We fought magnificently.

We saw great football from Craig Kelly, James Terry and near misses on goal from James Dixon. Fanatical defence from Tyrone saved Bassett from conceding a number of goals. Other members of the team should also be proud of their performance including our goalie, Matt.

The first goal against Bassett was after thirty minutes of even handed battling. However the second goal was highly questionable with the referee deciding to over rule the linesman who had given hand ball against Highworth. After some lively debate and comment, Terry Embling declined to take on refereeing the match after he was offered the opportunity to do so by his obviously great friend, the referee.

This meant that Bassett had to approach the second half with even greater fortitude, and they did. The second half saw Highworth score again, giving them a 3-0 result, being five less goals against us than at the last encounter, a substantial improvement for Bassett. The parents and management showed their appreciation of this by their applause at the end of the match.

The next games will be good to watch, as our results will continue to improve if we play like we did today. Good on you lads, carry on.
