Good stuff indeed

What a day to play football. What a day to watch, not the warmest or driest of conditions, but thanks lads, the win made it worth it!

A quietly confident Bassett side soon scored their first, with Harry seizing the opportunity within the opening minute. Consistent good play in attack was seen from James Terry, Matt Buckingham and Brett Carr.

We played enthusiastically, with all our players contributing significantly to a well played game. In attack, James Dixon was unlucky to not score from several chances, indeed there was a close run on goal by him, which was only prevented from being successful by some shirt pulling by Shaw. Never mind though, Harry scored another two goals in the first 30 minutes, one from a penalty which he took with ease. Unfortunately, Shaw managed to get a header in before half time. Not a bad result to finish the first half, 3-1, but the message to Bassett at this point was to not let your guard down and more work was needed.

Second half commenced after a very quick rest and re-hydration. Chris Edwards managed to finish off a Bassett attack by scoring. Shaw kept up their attack but it wasn′t as fortress like as ours, however they managed to squeeze one more goal past us, despite great work in defending by Tyrone, Craig Kelly and Craig Hunt.

Our lessons were learnt and largely implemented by keeping composure and position, don′t retaliate to fouls, and keep on fighting right to the end. The boys finished exhausted and indeed several injuries were testimony to the physical endurance required.

Good stuff.
