Something went wrong

Bassett prepared for the game with a team huddle indicating the way in which they would approach the first half. Their method would be composed, energetic, sportsmanlike and with complete dedication from all the players. The fact that there were no substitutes available would not matter during the first half.

Excellent energetic play from all the Bassett side ensured that they dominated play and possession. The majority of the game was being played in the Croft half. James Dixon, who played excellently throughout, scored the first goal, a brilliant long shot. Superb team work allowed Harry Fitzwilliams to score a further two goals. A cracking shot from James Terry smashed into the Croft crossbar shaking the entire goal, just a pity it bounced off. The defensive line held by Matt, Brett Carr, Craig Kelly and Tyrone stopped Croft from entering into the game. The first half finished convincingly with a 3-0 position. Bassett were right to have a good natured half time rest and recuperation, they had earned this winning position.

Round two commenced with Bassett trying to start the game with the same desire and passion of a 0-0 position, unfortunately something went wrong...

Despite some excellent saves by Tom Hammond, Croft managed to dominate the play. A rather more tired Bassett side were struggling to contain the attack being made upon them. Croft were able to score three goals. With each success, Bassett′s composure and teamwork failed a little more. With less than five minutes before full time, Croft scored the winning goal, an amazing defeat for Bassett when we reflect upon the favourable half time position.

If there were learnings it would be that teamwork is needed even more when things are difficult and that subs are useful to energise a team when the play has remained tough.
