Six of one and half a dozen of the other

This game was a case of six of one and half a dozen of the other.

After making the long journey to Midsomer Norton in Somerset, the girls came out of the blocks quicker than their opponents, and were two nil up inside the first five minutes. Despite playing uphill against the wind the girls continued to look more threatening and went into half time 4-1 up thanks to a first half hat-trick from Jenna and another goal from Ali.

However, this was to be a game of two halves and where Bassett had been more successful playing uphill against the wind, Westfield showed the same aptitude for performing against the elements. Maybe it was due to overconfidence or maybe it was down to Bassett piling down the slope trying to grab more goals, leaving gaps in defence, but ten minutes into the second half it was four apiece with everything to play for.

A swerving, dipping free-kick from Tegan made it 5-4 and when Ali popped up on the line to make it 6-4 the small band of Bassett supporters thought that it was all over. They had not accounted for the fighting spirit of the Somerset team as they clawed their way back to 6-6 before the whistle blew to call time on an enthralling match, which had flowed from end to end.
