Two second half goals seal it for Bassett

Two second half goals gave the girls a well deserved victory against a physically strong Westfield outfit in this league match played at Ballards Ash. The margin of victory could have been much greater if it had not been for some fine saves from the Westfield keeper.

Westfield started the match well and the Bassett defence was put to the test but they could not create any clear goal scoring opportunities due to some committed defending from the home side. Once Bassett got into the game the pace of Jenna McFadzean worried Westfield but thanks to a well marshalled defence that held the line, and some brave saves by the Westfield keeper, Bassett were unable to score.

Half time score 0-0.

Bassett started the second half on the front foot and took the game to Westfield. Soon after the kick off, Emily Dixon opened the scoring from close range following a period of play when Westfield failed to clear the ball from their box. It then looked as though the girls would go on to score several more goals but thanks to some fine goalkeeping and the woodwork the score stayed the same until fifteen minutes to go when Jenna McFadzean put the result beyond doubt with an opportunist goal. In the final ten minutes Bassett allowed Westfield to get back into the match but they never really looked liked scoring and in the end Bassett deserved the three points.

Girl of the match was Charlotte Burke
