Clevedon Town too physical for Bassett

The U14 girls came up against a physically strong and highly capable team when they played Clevedon Town in Yatton.

In the first ten minutes Clevedon probed the Bassett defence before they opened the scoring after the ball was allowed to bounce around in the Bassett goal mouth.

The same pattern continued for the remainder of the first half with Clevedon scoring a further three times to make the half-score 0-4

In the second half Bassett started well assisted by a slight slope and following wind, and the girls stated to create several openings, however, against the run of play Clevedon scored ten minutes into the second half to make the score 0-5.

Jenna Macfadzean had a great run on goal when she outstripped the Clevedon defence only to be thwarted by the onrushing goalkeeper. Clevedon made it 0-6 but then Jenna snatched a well deserved consolation goal.

In the final five minutes, with Bassett legs tiring, Clevedon scored four more goals to make the final result 1-10. This was a bit harsh considering the overall play but in the end it was a deserving victory for Clevedon and a hard lesson for the Bassett girls.
