Bassett win exciting if somewhat scrappy encounter in Calne

The U14 girls won an exciting, if somewhat scrappy encounter in Calne against Derry Hill.

Emily Dixon scored a first half hat-trick and Alyson Lyons scored another as Bassett stormed into a 4-0 lead. However Derry Hill came back into the match before half – time as the scored two late goals.

The second half was only five minutes old when a controversial penalty was awarded to Derry Hill. It seemed to be a case of ball to hand but the referee decided that it was deliberate hand ball and Derry Hill made the score 4-3 to Bassett from the resultant penalty kick.

Bassett then survived a period of sustained pressure before Amy Aitken restored the two goal margin, and Emily Dixon finished off the Bassett scoring when she intercepted a goal kick and coolly tucked the ball past the onrushing keeper.

Derry Hill managed to score a fourth goal just on the stroke of full time despite some brave keeping from Leah Blanchard.

Girl of the match was Hannah Coventry.
